Eight individuals have been injured in a motor vehicle crash in New York. The accident took place on a recent Friday morning and involved two automobiles. Sometimes, these types of crashes happen due to a driver’s negligence, which is grounds for litigation.
How the accident occurred
The recent accident took place in Manhattan at a little past 8:30 a.m. According to police, a man was driving a van at that time and suddenly rear-ended a car. This reportedly caused the car to enter an outdoor eating area, which did not have any occupants at the time. The van driver, 66, then allegedly drove another block prior. Police said he finally came to a stop in some scaffolding.
However, flying debris in the outdoor area allegedly struck two boys, ages 5 and 7. In addition, six adults suffered injuries in the crash. These adults included pedestrians as well as some individuals who were riding in the car that was reportedly rear-ended. Police said the man who was driving the van was transported to a police precinct but ended up having a medical episode and thus was taken to the hospital.
Legal options following the crash
New York authorities may determine that the van driver caused the accident due to possibly ignoring symptoms of his medical condition while behind the wheel. In this situation, the injured parties may choose to file personal injury claims against him, seeking damages. Claims that are fought successfully may help them to cover their hospital bills and other expenses resulting from the accident.
