A man has sadly lost his life in a tragic motorcycle-car crash in New York. The accident took place early in the morning on a recent Tuesday along Route 202. Sometimes, these types of crashes happen as a result of careless driving, which is grounds for litigation.
How the two-automobile accident happened
The recent collision occurred at about 7:40 a.m. According to authorities, a 24-year-old man was driving his motorcycle along the highway and suddenly crashed into a sport utility vehicle that was entering the highway from a nearby road. Police said a man, 34, was driving the sport utility vehicle.
The 24-year-old man suffered injuries in the crash and was therefore taken to a medical center by ambulance. However, he ended up succumbing to his injuries. Authorities continued to investigate the cause of the collision.
Legal recourse available following the collision
If police determine that the car driver caused the fatal accident due to negligent driving — for example, failing to yield the right of way to traffic — then the family members of the deceased motorcyclist may file a wrongful death claim against the car driver, seeking damages. Liability has to be established before a judge in New York will determine a claim for damages. If the claim is fought successfully, this may result in damages to cover the deceased man’s burial costs and other losses associated with the accident. No amount of damages can undo the events leading to the crash, but a damage award may help the man’s surviving loved ones to more easily move on from the ordeal.
