Officers with the New York State Police at Wurtsboro reported that a wrong-way driver died in a crash on Dec. 28. Reportedly, the accident occurred in the westbound lanes of State Route 17 in the town of Mamakating. Officers apparently received more than one call from motorists about the wrong-way driver prior to the crash's occurrence. Upon responding to the area, officers came upon the collision.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, a suspected DWI head-on collision claimed the life of a man on Dec. 6. The accident allegedly occurred on Route 25.
The Lincoln Tunnel connects New Jersey and Midtown Manhattan. When an accident occurs, traffic is snarled for miles, and there may be a delay in getting help to accident victims. On Sept. 2, an accident involving multiple victims and vehicles shut down the center tube of the tunnel.
