1 dead, 3 injured in SUV accident

A pedestrian accident that occurred in Queens on June 30 left one person dead and three others injured. The crash took place at about 6:30 p.m. on Horace Harding Expressway service road at Junction Boulevard close by the Long Island Expressway service road.

According to law enforcement, a black Porsche SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed on Horace Harding Expressway service road when the driver lost control. The vehicle struck a tree before hitting the sidewalk. It then hit a woman who was using the crosswalk and a woman nearby who was riding a bicycle. The driver continued on and struck two more vehicles. When the SUV stopped, the driver fled the scene on foot.

The 21-year-old pedestrian who was struck died at a nearby hospital. A 46-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was taken to a hospital for treatment. The other driver, age 26, was treated and released. It was not reported if the bicyclist suffered any injuries. As of the time of reports, authorities were still searching for the driver. He was identified as a man in his 50s who was wearing jeans and a white T-shirt.

Car accidents can potentially leave pedestrians or vehicle occupants with serious conditions such as broken bones, brain injuries or even damage to internal organs. If the driver who caused the crash was driving recklessly, negligently or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a personal injury attorney may assist with seeking compensation. Depending on the circumstances of the accident, the attorney may attempt to settle with the other party so that the injured person can recover any associated damages.
