Safe driving tips as the winter season transitions into spring

On Behalf of | Mar 6, 2024 | Car Accidents |

One of the most favorite times of the year for many here in New York is the transition from winter to warmer spring days. There are many noticeable changes during this time, including an increase in motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic on or near many roadways. For all the positives involved with the new season, this unfortunately can create more safety hazards and increase the chances of being involved in an accident.

Fortunately, there are some safe driving tips that one can implement to reduce the likelihood of a motor vehicle accident taking place. Before hitting the road, ensuring all tire pressure levels are adequate and replacing the windshield wipers if they have lost their effectiveness can both increase the odds of safer travels. Other safe driving practices that could prove beneficial to the cause include:

  • Staying vigilant for an increased level of pedestrians, motorcyclists and individuals using bicycles for both transportation and recreational purposes.
  • Slowing down during any adverse weather, allowing more time to come to a stop — if needed — on wet pavement
  • Limiting — if not avoiding travel altogether — when under the influence of any form of medication that causes drowsiness
  • Proceeding with caution around any construction zones, especially when close to any workers or their vehicles

While following the advice above should significantly lessen the chances of a motor vehicle accident, the possibility will always exist. In the blink of an eye, another individual’s reckless or negligent actions can result in even the safest of drivers being involved in an unfortunate incident. Thankfully, an experienced New York personal injury attorney can help accident victims seek the maximum amount of compensation to which they are entitled, allowing them to better focus on their recovery and move forward.
