2 seriously injured in New York 2-vehicle crash

On Behalf of | Nov 26, 2014 | Car Accidents |

Two men suffered major injuries in a car accident in New York on Nov. 18. The two-vehicle crash occurred just after 5:20 p.m. on State Route 66 in Chatham.

Police said that a 54-year-old man was traveling in the southbound lane of S.R. 66 just north of Boice Road when his 2006 Subaru Impreza drove over the centerline and into oncoming northbound traffic. An oncoming 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser collided with the Impreza. The force of the impact sent the PT Cruiser off the roadway and over a roadside guardrail. The Impreza came to a stop in the northbound lane.

The 43-year-old man driving the PT Cruiser suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident while the 54-year-old man suffered serious injuries. Emergency crews took both men to Albany Medical Center.

Police had not yet determined what caused the 54-year-old man to enter oncoming traffic. Officers who responded to the accident closed S.R. 66 for about four hours while teams processed the scene.

Those involved in head-on crashes may suffer head trauma and other serious injuries, which may require victims to undergo major surgery and extensive physical therapy in order to recover. Some victims may need in-home care or other costly services, and they are sometimes unable to return to work. An injured victim might want to consider filing a suit against the motorist whose negligence resulted in the car accident. A personal injury attorney might be able to advise a victim on collecting evidence of his or her injuries and other aspects of the litigation process.
