A car accident that occurred in New York left one person dead and three people critically injured on Jan. 5. Authorities stated that the accident took place in the Bronx at about 9 p.m. when a Camry drove into oncoming traffic, striking two other vehicles.

There were five men, all of whom were in their 20s, in the Camry when it collided with a Chrysler Town and a minivan. The driver was allegedly under the influence when the accident occurred. The four passengers were pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency services. The driver of the Camry left the scene of the accident, though he was taken into custody after being found at the hospital. He was charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident in addition to other charges. The report indicated that he was legally drunk when he allegedly caused the accident.

Additionally, the 47-year-old driver of the minivan that was hit was treated for minor injuries. A third unoccupied parked vehicle was also involved, and it was struck by the minivan and the Chrysler Town.

Car accidents can occur without warning and can leave those who are involved with serious injuries or even result in fatalities. If the person survives, they could be unable to work in the future if they suffered any disabilities. A personal injury attorney may assist with seeking compensation from the responsible driver and the driver’s insurance company. The attorney may provide proof that the other driver was responsible for causing the accident, especially if there is evidence that they were drunk or under the influence when the crash occurred. Depending on the severity of the injuries that were suffered, the injured person could potentially recover the cost of their medical bills and seek compensation for income that they were unable to earn.
