A man has sadly lost his life in a tragic car crash in Brooklyn. Meanwhile, four other people suffered injuries in the collision, which occurred when a car collided with an assisted living residence. Driver negligence can easily cause these kinds of accidents, in which case the negligent driver may be held liable for any injuries or deaths resulting from the crash.
Events leading up to the fatal crash
The tragic motor vehicle accident took place late at night on a Thursday. According to police, a man, 22, was driving near the assisted living home and suddenly slammed into the building’s side after breaching a fence nearby. Authorities said he was speeding at the time of the collision.
A passenger, 18, was riding in the car’s backseat and suffered injuries in the crash. Police said he was thus transported to a medical center but was later pronounced deceased. Four other individuals in the motor vehicle, including the motorist, also suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital. Authorities expected all of them to survive the wreck.
How an attorney can help following these accidents
The deceased car passenger’s surviving loved ones may opt to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the car, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages sustained in the crash. Likewise, the three injured passengers may decide to file personal injury claims against the driver. The plaintiffs must establish liability, based upon a showing of negligence, before a New York judge will decide claims for damages. If they are successful, they may receive financial damages to cover expenses stemming from the accident, such as funeral expenses, hospital costs and even the loss of wages.
