On Behalf of | Sep 28, 2021 | Pedestrian Accidents |

A man has sadly been injured in a pedestrian accident in New York. The accident took place along Route 112 on a Sunday night. Sometimes these types of accidents occur due to driver negligence, in which case the driver who caused the accident may be held liable for any injuries resulting from the collision.

Events leading up to the accident

The recent accident took place at about 9:40 p.m. According to authorities, a 22-year-old man was driving south on the highway. All of a sudden, his car hit a 54-year-old man who was walking nearby.

The victim who was reportedly struck suffered serious injuries and was therefore transported to a medical center, where his condition was deemed critical. The driver did not suffer any injuries in the crash. Authorities continued to investigate the collision.

Legal recourse is possible following these types of accidents

The injured pedestrian may decide to file a personal injury claim against the driver of the car that reportedly struck him, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. If the pedestrian can establish liability, based upon a showing of negligence, a New York judge will decide his claim for damages. The judge may end up awarding him damages to cover his hospital bills as well as the loss of wages due to having to miss work for a time following the crash. No amount of damages can undo the events leading to the pedestrian accident, but it may help the injured pedestrian to more easily move forward from the incident.
