2 dead in tragic New York motor vehicle wreck

On Behalf of | Feb 18, 2022 | Car Accidents |

The lives of two people — one a beloved preschool teacher — have sadly been lost due to a motor vehicle crash in New York. The accident, which involved three cars, took place on a recent Friday night along United States Route 190. These kinds of wrecks may occur as a result of a person’s carelessness behind the wheel, which can be grounds for litigation.

How the accident occurred

According to police, the recent crash took place when a 42-year-old female educator was driving south along the highway and suddenly crashed into a car heading north. A third motor vehicle then reportedly hit the woman’s car. Authorities said the woman passed away at the accident scene.

The passenger of the second motor vehicle suffered injuries and was taken to a medical center, where she later died. She was 20 years old. The conditions of the second car’s motorist and the individuals in the third car are unknown at this time.

Legal recourse is often possible following these unfortunate incidents

New York police may determine through their investigation that the deceased female teacher caused the accident due to negligent driving — for example, speeding. In this case, the surviving loved ones of the deceased passenger from the second automobile may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the teacher’s estate and anyone else with an ownership interest in the car she was driving at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, if another driver is found to have caused the accident, this driver may face wrongful death claims filed on behalf of the deceased teacher and the second automobile’s passenger. Successfully litigated claims may result in damages to cover funeral costs, hospital bills and other accident-related losses.
