A man’s life has sadly been lost in a tragic car collision in Verona. In addition, three people have been injured in the two-car motor vehicle crash. The wreck took place along New York State Route 31 on a recent Wednesday evening.
Events leading up to the accident
The unfortunate accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. According to authorities, a 73-year-old man was trying to turn left from an avenue onto the highway but did not yield to oncoming traffic. As a result, his car allegedly struck a pickup truck headed west on the highway.
Police said the male car driver was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. Meanwhile, his two passengers suffered injuries in the crash and were therefore hospitalized. One of the passengers, a 55-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries, whereas the other passenger, a 26-year-old man, suffered injuries not deemed life-threatening. The individual driving the pickup truck also suffered injuries but received treatment at the accident scene. Authorities continued to investigate the cause of the collision.
Seeking monetary relief
The two injured car passengers and the injured pickup truck driver may choose to file personal injury claims, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages sustained in the New York crash. Even though the man who reportedly caused the collision died in the crash, his estate may be sued. Likewise, anyone with an ownership interest in the car he was operating at the time of the accident may be named in the lawsuit. If the injured parties are successful in their claims, they may be awarded damages to cover their medical bills and other losses related to the accident, such as the loss of wages due to having to miss work as a result of the crash.
