A woman was hurt in a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Long Island. The crash occurred on a recent Thursday evening. Police said they were looking for the motorist who caused the crash and then fled the scene.

Events leading up to the crash

The accident occurred at 7:10 p.m. According to police, a woman was attempting to cross New York Avenue in her vehicle, close to a library. Another motorist reportedly struck her car.

Police reported that the second motorist left the crash scene by driving south. Meanwhile, the woman suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital by helicopter. Authorities said they believed that the hit-and-run driver was operating an older gray car at the time of the crash, and they offered a cash reward for any information leading to the car driver’s arrest.

How an attorney can help

If police find the car driver who allegedly caused the hit-and-run crash (they usually do), the injured woman may opt to file a personal injury claim against this driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained in the accident. If the driver ends up being criminally charged and convicted in connection with the accident, proof of this may be presented in a New York civil court to establish negligence per se regarding the injury car accident. If the plaintiff is successful, she may receive damages to cover her losses stemming from the crash, such as medical expenses and even the loss of wages due to missing work as a result of her injuries.
