New York car crash injures 2

On Behalf of | Apr 22, 2023 | Car Accidents |

Two people were hurt in a car accident that occurred in Putnam County. The incident apparently happened in Southeast during the early morning hours of a recent Saturday. While there were reports of two vehicles interacting with each other, just one vehicle was involved in the crash. It took place on Interstate 84.

How the accident happened

The New York car crash reportedly occurred at 1:43 a.m. According to law enforcement authorities, a 29-year-old man was driving eastbound along the right line of the highway. A second car apparently moved over toward him from the left lane, and the first driver ended up losing control of his car as a result.

Police said the first car driver then left the road and overturned in a nearby embankment. Both the man and his 22-year-old female passenger were thrown from the car and suffered injuries. They received treatment at the crash scene before being taken to medical centers for additional evaluations.

Legal recourse available following the crash

If the gathered evidence suggests that the negligence of the other caused the New York collision and injuries that resulted, grounds for legal recourse would likely exist. In this situation, the two injured individuals may decide to file personal injury claims against the driver deemed at fault, seeking a monetary judgment for documented damages. Meanwhile, if the evidence indicates that the first car’s driver was at fault in the accident instead, the injured passenger may file a personal injury claim against her own driver. Liability must be established in civil court, based upon a showing of negligence, before a judge will decide the claims for damages. Successfully navigated claims typically result in awards for financial damages to cover medical expenses and other losses stemming from the motor vehicle accident, such as the loss of wages.
