A woman has sadly lost her life in a tragic motor vehicle collision in New York. Two other individuals also suffered injuries in the crash. The unfortunate accident occurred during the early morning hours on a recent Sunday and involved several cars.
Events leading up to the accident
The recent accident took place at around 3:20 a.m. According to authorities, a car was going south along the Van Wyck Expressway and suddenly rear-ended another vehicle that was headed south. The first car then reportedly rear-ended a third car that was going south.
Police said the first car’s driver then suddenly lost control of the motor vehicle and ended up going over the nearby guardrail. It then reportedly landed on a service road before the driver fled the scene on foot. The men driving the second car and the third car were both transported to the hospital with minor injuries following the crash. However, a 77-year-old woman who was riding in the back seat of the second car suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Police continue to investigate the collision.
How an attorney can help following these incidents
If the individual who allegedly caused the New York accident and fled the scene is apprehended, the surviving loved ones of the woman who died in the crash may choose to file a wrongful death claim against this driver. Likewise, the injured parties may decide to file personal injury claims against this individual. In both situations, the plaintiffs must establish liability before the civil court hearing their cases before a judge will adjudicate their claims for damages. If they are successful, they may receive compensation to cover burial costs and hospital bills resulting from the wreck.
