On Behalf of | Feb 25, 2023 | Car Accidents |

Four individuals were killed in a horrific motor vehicle accident. The tragedy involved two cars and took place on a recent Friday night. It occurred in East Marion, in Suffolk County.

Accident details

Reportedly, the collision happened just after 11:30 p.m. Law enforcement authorities said the vehicles collided head-on along State Route 25. Two men, ages 47 and 55, were in a 2023 Tesla. The other car, a Ford Explorer, was occupied by an 80-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman. An initial media report did not identify who was driving either vehicle.

Police said all four individuals were trapped inside as fires consumed the cars. Authorities said it was not immediately apparent what had caused the crash. However, police continue to investigate the collision and more details may be available later.

Legal recourse available following the accident

The accident investigation will likely identify exactly what occurred and whether one or both drivers bore some responsibility for the crash. There was no immediate indication as to whether drugs or alcohol played any role in the tragedy. The surviving families of the victims may choose to discuss their options for legal recourse because of the tragedy. Wrongful death claims may be filed in civil court based on evidence of negligence that is believed to have led to the accident. As the details become clearer, these claims may be filed against the estate of the driver deemed responsible for the crash, along with anyone with an ownership interest in the vehicle that the driver was operating at the time of the crash. Successfully litigated claims may result in damage awards to cover the deceased victims’ burial costs and other accident-related monetary losses.
