Events leading up to the collision

The New York collision occurred at about 4:45 a.m. According to authorities, a 30-year-old man lost control of his car while driving on Hylan Boulevard in Staten. The car struck a barrier and then a utility post. The impact of the wreck tore the car in half.

Police said a passenger in the car was ejected from the motor vehicle. The woman, said to be 23 years old, was pronounced dead at the crash scene. Meanwhile, the driver suffered only minor injuries. Authorities took the driver into custody following the accident, and criminal charges are now pending against him in connection with the crash.

An attorney can help

The surviving loved ones of the woman who died in the New York collision may decide to file a wrongful death claim against the man who was driving the car. If he is charged and then convicted of these charges, proof of this may be presented in civil court to establish liability for the fatal accident.  If the woman’s family members are successful in civil court, they might be awarded financial damages to cover losses related to the accident, such as the woman’s funeral costs and the loss of support for the woman’s surviving dependents.
