A woman was killed in a two-car accident in New York. The wreck took place on a Thursday afternoon. Driver carelessness is often at the root of these collisions, in which case the allegedly at-fault driver may be held financially responsible for injuries or deaths resulting from the accident.

Events leading up to the crash

The recent motor vehicle accident occurred at a little past 1 p.m. According to police, a 66-year-old man was driving a van east along New York State Route 3. However, he reportedly did not stop after approaching a red traffic light.

The man apparently crashed into a pickup truck that a 61-year-old man was driving. A 72-year-old woman was riding in the van at the time of the crash and died in the collision. The two drivers suffered injuries and were transported to a medical center for treatment. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.

How an attorney can help

The surviving family members of the woman who died in the New York crash likely have grounds to file a wrongful death claim against the van driver, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages sustained due to the wreck. In addition, the injured pickup truck driver may choose to file a personal injury claim against the van driver. The plaintiffs must establish liability in civil court before a judge will consider their claims for damages. Successfully presented claims may result in an award of financial damages to cover items like hospital bills, funeral costs and other documented monetary losses.
