What happened

The recent New York collision took place on a Saturday. According to authorities, a 21-year-old woman crashed her car into one driven by a 17-year-old boy. The woman was pronounced deceased at the crash scene.

Police said the teenager suffered injuries in the collision and was transported to a medical center for treatment. He died as well. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the motor vehicle crash.

Legal recourse

As both drivers perished, details of the accident were scarce. In fact, police in Utica have asked anyone with information concerning the crash to contact them via a listed phone number. An accident reconstruction team may be called in to try and document exactly what occurred and whether one or both drivers contributed to the cause of the tragic accident. Once the details emerge, the surviving families of the deceased victims will have the opportunity to consider their options for pursuing wrongful death claims in civil court.

A formal claim would likely name the other driver as a defendant and could be filed against the driver’s estate. Likewise, anyone else with an ownership interest in the car that he or she was driving at the time of the accident may be named in the wrongful death lawsuit. Once the plaintiffs establish liability, their documented before a judge will adjudicate their claim for monetary damages.
